December Meeting Recap

December 19, 2019

Thank you to those who attended the December meeting. Below you will find the recap of what happened. For full details, minutes are available at the union office and will be presented at the January meeting.

Jeff presented the treasurers report and used a new format. He received feedback and will continue to make form understandable and as current as possible. We are working on updating our records from paper ledgers to electronic.

Sara presented the President's Report and shared the recent training the executive and stewards have received for bargaining. Converstations have been continuing with the employer on the need for conversions and more permanent employees.

The social committee shared that the adult Christmas Party had 176 members attend. The Kids' Christmas Party had 110 children register. Both events were successful and will take any feedback to improve upon for next year. Next year's adult party will be on November 27, 2020.

Garth presented the Trustee Report on the 2018 financials.

Update on grievances was given, one was recently won and there are two currently ongoing.

Nominations were taken for 2nd Vice President. Scott Johnson was nominated and acclaimed into the position. Nominations for Operations Member at Large will take place at the January Meeting.

The executive wishes everyone a Happy Holiday and hopes to see you all at the next membership meeting on January 14.

November 12 Membership Meeting Recap

November 13, 2019

Thank you to all who were able to come out to yesterday's membership meeting. Below is a recap of the meeting.

Peter Taylor has resigned his position of Secretary Treasurer. We are extremely thankful to his committment to the membership and will miss him on the executive. He served on the executive for over 20 years.

Nominations were taken for the secretary treasurer and Jeff Culhane was acclaimed into the position. In order to accept the position, Jeff regsigned from his current position of Second Vice President. Nominations for that position will take place at the December Membership Meeting.

The treasurer's report was presented and shared some of the changes we'll see on future reports to show year to date and budgeted numbers. An update of spending for the new building will show on future treasurer reports as well.

In the president's report, it was shared some of the recent training members have undergone for Financial Essentials, Bargaining, and Understanding the Collective Agreement. Five members of the executive were also selected to be part of the committee meetings for CUPE BC to help shape the direction of CUPE BC and its initiatives.

Committee Reports

Three grievances have recently been settled; however, two new ones have been started.

The adult and childrens Christmas Parties are available for registration at any recreation centre. The adult party is almost sold out!

New Business

Notice of Motion - CUPE 403 to donate $500 to Langley United Soccer Association in 2020.

There was a discussion on communication and the various styles the local is using. We will try email communication again. Thank you to members that help share the message of the local and encourage attendance at the membership meetings.

October 15 Membership Meeting Recap

October 22, 2019

Thank you to all those who attended the most recent membership meeting.
Below is a short recap of our meeting.

Treasurer's Report was presented and adopted
Trustees Report was not presented but will be for the next meeting

President's Report:
Thanked the membership for supporting the executive to attend Bargaining Training and the CUPE National Convention in Montreal. Highlights of the convention included hearing Jagmeet Singh speak, receiving convention updates, and hearing sisters from South America talk about their labour movement and struggles.

Committee Reports:
Community Committee:

As reported by Scott J: the committee met recently to discuss ways of engaging the community. Options of reaching out to sports associations and attending community events with a CUPE booth were shared. With the goal of having the community understand the work our members do.
Social Committee:
Registration for the CUPE Christmas Party is now open. November 22 at Cascade Casino. Tickets are $20 each and can be purchased at a Recreation centre.
Confirmation of location for the Kids CUPE Christmas Party will be out shortly. The party will be on Dec 8 in a similar format to last year.

Unfinished Business:
Executive recommendation: Canadian Union of Public Employees will retain a permanent full-time Office Administrator covered by Canadian Office of Professional Employees Union Local 378.

End of Summer BBQ - September 10 2019

Membership meetings are back!

Hope everyone had a great summer. Please join us Tuesday, September 10, 2019 @ the Mcleod Athletic Park - Field House @ 5:00 pm. We will start with the regular membership meeting, followed by a BBQ for all our members. This includes all auxiliary, temporary and regular members.
